Ancient Treasure

Elderly people in Bali or Indonesia in general , gain and keep the secret of the local wisdom and knowledge through the practises which are inherit from their former grandparents. Believed that plants are the source of healing meaning that as simple as that to bring your body back to normal and balanced well being by mixing , boiling , grating , or pounding parts from the plants . Either root , bark , leaves , flower . Forming into herbal drink or body mask .

In Indonesia , making jamu still is common activity to do by the women which can be drink by both men and women. There are certain recipe for certain health benefit from the simple case of curing tiredness to bit serious one . The one that if quiet everyone favorite is Jamu Kunyit ( Turmeric Jamu ) , delicius blend of Turmeric , Ginger , Tamarind , Palm Sugar and lime as desired. Turmeric contains tons of health benefit , just mentioned some : Anti-inflammatory , antioxidant , improve immune system , help to relieve menstrual pain in women , control weight. The thicker the texture , the stronger the flavour – the more it affect the healing.

The Jamu woman ( a woman who sell Jamu ) can be found at the market in the morning. She put some bottles oj various Jamu in the woven-basket , carry it behind her back and use sash to tightening it.

The other one is Balinese Boreh – a warming body mask . As what you can see in the picture , those all spices provide warmth to your body. Perfect to prevent cold , cure tiredness, loosening and relaxing the muscle. They all are placed on the stone mortar then pounded to become a paste like thing. Beside warming , the smell is incredibly fragrance and hot. Afer long day at the ricefield , the farmers as they return home and clean themselves – will apply boreh at all over the body except face – and at the temples. They probably would like to put more on their legs and arms. The next morning , they could just take a warming bath from the water that is boiled with cloves leaves. What a refreshing!

Now that this ancient remedy needs to be preserved , I decided to share my knowledge of this practise. And I found how important for me as a new generation to keep its existence. We know how fast the world moves , and changings are happening constantly either we want it or not. It’s not enough just to look after our external dimension
( physical ) without listening to our inner dimension ( heart ) , otherwise balanced won’t be created. Hence , I create 3 hours wellness activity for everyone to make their own ancient remedy and combine it with an hour guided meditation.
